Our eyes express our emotions and betray our thoughts, glinting when we are angry, pooling with tears when we are sad and sparkling with happiness when we laugh.

Eye make-up can reveal a lot about our personality or the person we wish to portray at any given time. It can transform us from capable business woman to sexy siren, from natural and pretty to sultry and glamorous in an instant. Its a wonderful tool that allows us to express different sides of our personality. Like all make-up, it should boost out confidence, enhance and flatter, enabling our true self to shine at its very best. Experiment with different looks and have fun playing with colour and texture.

Looking after your Eyes

The skin around the eyes is much thinner than on the rest of the face and signs of ageing will show there first. Stress, tiredness, overexposure to the sun and poor diet all take their roll. Try not to strain your eyes by reading in poor light, watching too much television or staring at your computer for too long. Wear sunglasses in bright weather to protect the eyes and prevent squinting. Do your best to have a good night's sleep and eat a healthy diet.

MY SECRET: To combat dark under-eye circles, dab a tiny amount of creamy white eye-shadow in the inner corners of the eyelids, top and bottom. If the skin is dark, use a light brown shade. Applying make-up is a very personal thing, every woman I know has a routine that they tend to follow, and while there are no real rights and wrongs, the following tips will help you achieve the most professional results.

Ten Steps to a Perfect Make-up Spree

1. Start with clean, bare skin.

2. Use a moisturizer with SPF on the face and decolletage.

3. Use an eye cream to hydrate the eye area.

4. Apply a primer, if you wish.

5 If you are creating dramatic eyes, apply your eye make-up now, before you do your face.

6. Apply foundation where desired, blending it well around the hairline and jawbone.

7. Use a concealer where needed, such as under the eyes, around the nostrils and on any blemishes.

8. If you are wearing a cream blush or cream stain, apply it now, blending well.

9. Apply a light sheer powder to set the foundation and remove shine. If you prefer powder blush, apply it now.

10. Do your lips last, to avoid smudging. Use a touch of make-up remover on a cotton bud to correct mistakes.
